The Power of Rest: Restorative Yin

In a culture that often encourages us to push, strive, and stay busy, Restorative Yin Yoga offers a rare and meaningful pause. This practice invites you to slow down, soften effort, and allow your body and nervous system the space they need to reset.
Rather than asking what more can I do?, Restorative Yin gently asks,
What can I release? What can I receive?
Restorative Yin Yoga is a quiet, deeply supported practice that blends the long-held, meditative qualities of Yin with the nurturing comfort of Restorative yoga.
Poses are held for several minutes and are fully supported with props—bolsters, blankets, blocks—so the body can rest without strain. Sensation is present, but never forced. Stillness is encouraged, but always optional.
The emphasis is on:
Ease over effort
Listening over pushing
Support over stretch
This is a practice of allowing, not achieving.
Restorative Yin gently guides the body into a parasympathetic state—the “rest and digest” mode—helping to calm stress, anxiety, and mental fatigue.
Long, supported holds encourage hydration and circulation in the connective tissues, supporting joint health and mobility over time.
With muscles fully supported, the body can soften completely. This level of rest is often difficult to access in daily life—and profoundly healing.
Resting in stillness gives space to notice thoughts, sensations, and emotions with curiosity rather than judgment. The practice becomes one of kindness toward yourself.
For those who practice more dynamic yoga, exercise regularly, or live busy lives, Restorative Yin provides an essential counterbalance—helping prevent burnout and overuse.
Unlike faster-paced or strength-based yoga, Restorative Yin is not about flowing from pose to pose. Instead, you’ll move slowly, settle in, and stay.
Unlike traditional Yin, where sensation may be more pronounced, Restorative Yin prioritizes comfort and support, allowing you to remain present without pushing beyond your edge.
This practice is less about flexibility and more about regulation, awareness, and rest.
Restorative Yin is truly for everyone, including:
Those feeling tired, stressed, or overwhelmed
People seeking nervous system support
Anyone recovering from illness, injury, or emotional fatigue
Beginners and long-time practitioners alike
No experience or flexibility is required. You are welcome exactly as you are.
In a Restorative Yin class, you can expect:
Fewer poses, held longer
Generous use of props
Gentle guidance and spacious silence
An emphasis on breath, sensation, and rest
Time at the end for deep relaxation or meditation
Many students leave feeling grounded, nourished, and more at ease—not just in their bodies, but in their minds.
Restorative Yin Yoga reminds us that rest is not passive—it is powerful. In slowing down, we allow the body to heal, the nervous system to settle, and the mind to soften.
This practice offers a quiet invitation:
to pause,
to be supported,
and to remember that doing less can sometimes give us so much more.
To experience the practice:
